Due dates…

They can often have a finality to them, a sense of impeding doom one might say. For me however they are a welcome staple of my college life. I would amuse myself with inconsequential activities and never pick up my homework if it was never due. I often leave my work up until the very last minute, but the urgency of a clock ticking will spur me into action.

In my concept video, I tried to capture this same acceptance of due dates and the change they signal. The characters enjoy their fun, but when the clock comes into frame they quickly find a solution and leave. Although the solution is whimsical, they themselves were whimsical and it seemed a perfect fit for a well meaning group of Ben Ten figurines and Harambe.

As a medium, stop motion fascinates me. The artist has infinite control over every detail in every shot. While it may seem empowering, this is also a burden. A perfect illustration of this occurs when at some points in my film the clock is lit up blue. It appears to race through time at an alarming rate. These fleeting moments show how time consuming the work can be. The clock is in real time, but setting up each frame over 600 times can seem like an eternity.
