My original thoughts of making my short film “Popping in the Life” is to combine popping dance with Pittsburgh and the specific girl who danced in my film. This girl is my friend and has a very special experience. She came here because of being attracted by the beautiful design of Cathedral of Learning, and when she came, her major was not decided yet. Within the first year of study at Pitt, she found her interests in design and art, so she made a decision to go to NYC to study interior design. We have lots of conversation about this and I found her unique insights into dance and art, and decided to record them. More importantly, she has the courage that I really appreciate. Some people never find their interests in their whole life, and some lucky guys find but never put it into action. She is lucky to find her interests and was brave to start over. She also works so hard to achieve her goals. That’s why I named this film as “Popping in the Life”. It doesn’t only refer to this kind of dance, but also expresses that do not make your life “lifeless”, find something you like, give life some “popping” and make it more colorful. Last but not least, since she is leaving Pittsburgh, I think this is a good way to commemorate her two-year stay.
I really like the background music. It has great rhythm and makes people feel excited. I contacted the producer and told him the whole situation to see if I can use his music as the background music of my Film class final project. I got the permission and really appreciate it.
